Welcome to Books Above the Bend, a place to find rare and unique printed works from the 18th century to the present day. Here you will find an eclectic selection ranging from illustrated Victorian novels with hand-colored drawings, maps & atlases, art, architecture, tales of exploration, adventure and espionage, science-fiction and fantasy, technology over the ages and limited edition private press works from Roycrofters and others.

We are excited to curate a selection of catalogs that will evolve over time. Sometimes these will be based on an interesting theme, current events, a region or simply as an excuse to share beautiful works of art in the printed form.

Books Above the Bend was inspired for all those involved from a lifelong passion for books and everything that they contain and present to the eye and to the mind, as well as the stories behind the publishers, illustrators, authors and readers that create and consume each page. From time to time we will also post stories that dive into the particulars about a book or collection, as well as review what we are currently reading and tell stories about operating the shop.

The collection presented virtually, as well as many more selections not displayed online, is managed ‘Above the Bend’ — that is perched on a cliff several hundred feet above a wide bend in the Delaware River in upstate New York. From here we promise to never cease to seek out and present interesting works from all corners of the globe, as well as provide research and library curation services for the special collector in us all.

Join us in the adventure by following us on social media, reading the blog and signing up for the newsletter.

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” (Jorge Luis Borge)
